Types of weathering Explained

Chemical weathering

This may involve water combining with one of the elements that make up a rock in the process of Hydrolysis such as Hydration and Carbonation.

Biological weathering

Plants can assist with chemical weathering when their roots secrete weak acids that attack the rocks. Decomposing plant material also releases acid. Burrowing animals like rabbits, ground squirrels and moles as well as insects like ants and termites also contribute to weathering.

Physical weathering

Sometimes called Mechanical weathering which is process that breaks rocks apart without changing their chemical composition.
