      a) Explain the meaning of the term mass wasting (3) b) name and describe the various factors that affect mass wasting (6) c) how can humans and animals speed up the process of mass wasting (3)

More explanation about mass movement and slope stability

This video explains more on the variety of processes exist by which materials can be moved down a slope. these processes are known as mass movement or mass wasting.   Link 2: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjX6Juiz7L6AhVREsAKHXlrDswQtwJ6BAgJEAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fopengeology.org%2Ftextbook%2F10-mass-wasting%2F&usg=AOvVaw1lskiA09_M5q-yhsB9ek95

Mass movement and Slope Stability

Image
Mass wasting occurs when a slope fails :  A slope fails when it is too steep and unstable for existing materials and conditions. Slope stability is ultimately determined by two principal factors: the slope angle and the strength of the underlying material. How does mass movement affect slopes?   Steep and unstable slopes are more likely to have a mass movement than gentle and stable slopes . A fall or topple happens when rocks and other sediments fall through the air and land at the bottom of a slope. Flows are a mixture of water, rock and sediment.

Types of weathering Explained

Chemical weathering This may involve water combining with one of the elements that make up a rock in the process of Hydrolysis such as Hydration and Carbonation.     Biological weathering Plants can assist with chemical weathering when their roots secrete weak acids that attack the rocks. Decomposing plant material also releases acid. Burrowing animals like rabbits, ground squirrels and moles as well as insects like ants and termites also contribute to weathering. Physical weathering Sometimes called Mechanical weathering which is process that breaks rocks apart without changing their chemical composition.
